3i is one of a few publicly listed private equity houses in our industry. Since listing in 1994, we have aimed to be amongst the best in our peer group, whether our peers are other listed companies of private equity firms. Our approach to transparency, just like our approach to corporate responsibility in general, is commercially driven and goes beyond compliance.
We believe that an open and straightforward approach builds trust and respect and that our success depends on the trust and respect of a growing number of different interested parties. This is why 3i enthusiastically supported the Walker Working Group in the UK, and was among the first in the sector to commit to comply with its guidelines. It also explains why 3i had the first corporate responsibility report in the sector, and now the first dedicated corporate responsibility website.
We aim to balance increasing demand for public disclosure with existing responsibilities to our shareholders, limited partners and portfolio companies. As a UK-based firm operating across the world, we follow the Walker Guidelines, a disclosure framework developed for the sector.
We disclose more information than is legally required and have won awards for our annual report and corporate responsibility report.
“Our pioneering approach to governance and corporate responsibility issues in the industry stand 3i in good stead as the debate about responsibility and transparency in the industry develops.”
- Baroness Hogg, Chairman, 3i
